Mampi Swift & Charge Recordings – The History

Being a junglist the name Mampi Swift conjures up memories of dancefloor madness. Not just from the man himself and his mixing style but also the depth of his productions. After a short break and fresh for 2012, it brings a smile to my face to say Mampi Swift & Charge Recordings are back. His brand new album entitled ‘The History’ is already receiving huge DJ support from the scenes heavyweights. There’s no doubt that with a killer LP and some huge remixes of the Charge back catalogue that Swift is ready to turn DnB on its head once again. Something I’m finding incredibly welcome. We’ve been lucky enough to recieve a sampler here at the Robot Bodypop and the track ‘Gangster’ which Bailey spun recently on 1Xtra is a monster.

Another favourite is the mighty ‘Warrior code’ by Gridlok and the absolute tearout ‘Class Of 1999’ by NC-17 & Mr Explicit. It’s also the name of one of my favourite films. Back of the net.

You can cop previews of the album here at Mampi’s Soundcloud page

An incredible return to form and we are eagerly anticipating the full release and are hoping to chat some breeze with Mampi in the coming weeks to find out where he’s been hiding so keep your eyes peeled.

Robot Bodypop 18.08.12 – 1st Birthday Edition

artwork by Brian Despain

One year since it’s immaculate conception, Robot Bodypop pull out all the stops to bring you a fitting celebration to end a great first year of podcasting. We have been very lucky to host and interview some amazing acts in our ongoing Transmit mix series and we hope to build on that into 2013. We are massively appreciative of our listeners, friends, relatives, producers, artists, labels and promoters that have helped and supported us along the way. To show how humble we are, we have stitched together an hour long back to back mix of some of our keenest selections to date for free download. Check the First Annuary Podcast feature below.

As for the show itself, 1nejack opens on the deep and emotional side of things with artists like Purity Ring, Maribou and 123MRK all gracing the playlist. Killian comes in a dutty dancefloor style – Major Lazer, Strategy and eccentric reggae don Lee Scratch Perry get a good rotation in his half of the show, but that’s not before we bring out this fortnight’s Survivor. Clear out your ears, open your mind and enjoy.

Chimpo – 2KFLLWRS EP

Soundboy killer and all round badman Chimpo gives away this 4 track EP featuring a track I’ve been hassling him for for the best part of 2 years. Appropriately titled ‘2KFLLWRS EP’ after hitting the 2000 followers of his Twitter page, the selection includes 2-step vocal cut ‘Just People Step’ which is the highlight for me. A deeper vibe with ‘Freaky Deaky’ and then a remix of a classic with ‘More Bounce’. All topped off with the smooth ‘Me n Cassie’ this is a ridiculously good giveaway. Bag it before all the links disappear.

DRS & Marcus Intalex

In anticipation of the forthcoming ‘I Don’t Usually Like MC’s But…’ long player from DRS, Soul:R label boss Marcus Intalex teams up with the mic-man himself with a stunning mix featuring cuts from the album. An exclusive to the DataTransmission collective, its a showcase of talents from both DRS and the producers. The LP is set to drop at the album launch party at the ‘Bunch Of Cuts’ night on the 25th August where DRS will feature alongside Marcus Intalex, Dub Phizix, Calibre, dBridge and S.P.Y amongst others. A truly mouth watering line up which serves this release justice. Tune into the mix to see what all the hype is about.

nonXero – Black Art

Set to drop on the 2nd June, US DJ & producer nonXero draws inspiration from reggae, grime, dubstep and future garage for this release on In The Mix records. ‘Black Art’ will be nonXeros 3rd album and its a reflection of his time spent in Detroit, Michigan. Wanting to identify the relationship between art, music and urban culture, nonXero uses samples recorded by himself to illustrate what he calls his ‘adventures’. Several stand out tracks such as the ‘Down Under’ VIP and ‘Will You Be Mine’ but its a solid collection of tracks that builds and builds. Bag it.

Also be sure to check out his soundcloud page as theres a stack of music on there.
