Robot Bodypop 03.03.12

artwork by ClockworkVerdigis

Yes Yes! Really excited about this weeks Robot Bodypop show. Not least because of the badman selection but it also marks the start of the Transmit exclusive mixes. Each one promises to be a showcase of artists, labels or vocalists talents with some very special guests in the coming weeks. Starting us off is the mighty Clueless from Norway.

Alongside the Transmit mix theres tracks from Heny G, the mighty Dem A Talk by Compa, some older bits from HotFlush and Ox Rider Records as well as some newer cuts from Dispatch Recordings with Dabs & Saffire and a serious Clubroot riddim. Chuck all this in the mix with some killer freebies. Get locked.

Lying Here – Skittles

Skittles – Poor With £100 Trainers

Hotly anticipated on the Estate Recordings label, wordsmith Skittles returns with his second LP. The album features Skittles own productions alongside Chimpo, Dub Phizix and DRS alongside vocals from Mr Fox and Fallacy. A serious recipe for a long player. The album features cuts released previously as a taster such as ‘Tip-i-Cally’, ‘Boys In Blue’ and the monster ‘Dot2Dot’ as well as some fresh cuts like Robot Bodypop favourite, ‘Lying Here’. As Estate Recordings like to put it:

Imagine a piece of classical music, put it in a blender and add some reggae/ska to it, throw a load of broken instruments in the mix and a few proper cold rappers, sprinkle in some grime an a vinyl, add a bit of pop an pulse until smooth, an you will have nothing like what this album is.

Released on the 5th March in Manchester where you can catch the launch party at The Deaf Institute with a worldwide release following on the 12th March. Pick this album up. Don’t sleep.

Soundphiles Meets Dom Hz

Soundphiles continue the exclusive mixes with Mancunian bass music producer, Dom Hz. Doms live sets make it clear that the boundaries of modern bass music are there to be blurred as he moves through vibes with intent. Alongside his own productions and remixes, Dom is also part of the collective, Joe Kalius which fuses the minds of DJ’s, producers and vocalists into one live experience and his recent side project, Stak One, which allows him to be more experimental, is also throwing up some incredible results. Accompanying the mix is an in depth interview where he goes to to explain each part of this solid repertoire. Lock in.

Out on the 7th November, Dot2Dot is already on Radio 1 rotation and gaining airplay from Mary Anne Hobbs amongst others. Put simply, its a banger and with the release featuring remixes from Zed Bias, Dub Phizix and Joe Kalius its as fresh as you can get. Beats and lyrics come as good as it gets. Essential listening.
