Featuring the best of their past 50 or so releases, Basswave 2 is the culmination of an outstanding year for Slime Recordings. The vibe is deep and eclectic with tribal, melancholic, soulful and heavyweight bases covered in the pick of the year’s releases.

Slime have had a swarm of impressive debuts this year, notably from the likes of Akin and Vausz to name just two – as well as a number of important releases from established artists such as Partyson and Totte. The bar is high, and that is reflected by the quality of the tracks on this compilation.

If you are new to this imprint then you could do much worse than start with this release – before you inevitably go sifting through their back catalog for their other quality releases.

Soundproof & Dubfreq – Bear Brawler/Aurora 7 | Soundproof Recordings

Soundproof and Dubfreq collaborate on this jagged and sinister dubstep release. Both tracks inhabit the same aural spectrum with guttural basses growling over ear-smashing  drops, with some fantasitically intricate distortion going on. Bear Brawler is the louder piece, with Aurora 7 bringing a minimal deep space vibe. Highly recommended.

Eschewing Hip Hop in it’s purest form, this head nodding track is funkier than an unwashed catheter tube with Bill’s lyrical delivery coming grimier than your grandma’s windowsills. Yes, Burial is back. This is his first outing since the Kindred EP, which marked a subtle change of stylistics for this elusive producer. As beautifully crafted as ever, these two tracks are as surprising and satisfying as we have come to expect. With no hint or any threat that he is about to start selling out or falling off, I don’t even need to tell you to buy this – most of you will already have made that decision before you even clicked on this page.

PARTY IN A CHURCH ON NEW YEARS EVE

UNIQUE CHAPEL – PLATT FIELDS – FALLOWFIELD

Following on from last years success, Mancunian Way & Rhythmicity present  New Years Eve : The Smashment 2012, a night promising great music and unbeatable atmosphere in an unrivalled new venue – The grade 2 listed Unique Chapel, set in the grounds of Platt Fields Park in the heart of South Manchester.

The momentum builds from 8pm with Unity Radio 92.8FM‘s flagship Reggae team The pRp Show dropping classic Roots & Reggae vibes in their inimitable ‘Punky Reggae Party’ set. Mancunian Way DJ’s Marlon De Blanco and Dyl E.D. go back to back in the lead up to midnight increasing the energy with up front Hip Hop and Club Classics. Then from midnight onwards, Robot Bodypop‘s own 1neJack takes over proceedings with an epic 3 hour set comprising Garage, Old Skool and Jungle vibes along side the best in current bass music.

The newly installed sound system is fully complimented by excellent chapel acoustics and a large dance floor. There is a large mezzanine chill out section and a fully seated smoking area out back. And of course, the well stocked bar offers cheap drinks with a selection of great value promotions on the night.
