DéjàView – Throwing Dirt EP | Forthcoming Future Flavour

Big up to Richard at Future Flavour for putting this one out for scrutiny. Warm vibrations and rich percussive energy combine on this two track release from Huddersfield’s DéjàView, aka Ben Potts.

‘Throwing Dirt”s bright percussive chords are built up by crisp drums and popping melodic incursions which dart across the lustrous synth-work and drifting vocals in a perfectly executed composition.

‘On My Knees’ is altogether more melancholic, with sedate chords and dub-centric drums solidifying into a static head nodder as the track progresses. With it’s obscure speech sample and mellow vibe this one threw up comparisons with Groove Armada’s brilliant Vertigo album, which by our reckoning is no bad thing.

Out on Future Flavour and available just about everywhere from the 31st, also watch out for the video which accompanies the title track and is set to hit the net in the next few days.

Dub Motion – Lucifer / Red Stripe

Regal Records returns maintaining the ethos of promoting fresh dance music from up and coming producers. This cut, the ninth release so far, sees South London’s Dub Motion at the controls with ‘Lucifer’ and ‘Red Stripe’. Two serious tunes which have already been gaining appreciation on the dancefloor and both tracks featured on the recent S.P.Y. Hospital podcast. Theres plenty of support in the scene too from the likes of Logistics, Cyantific, London Elektricity, Nu:Tone & Random Concept. Each track leans towards the darker side of D&B but each showing that Dub Motion has a great deal to offer the scene.

Available to pick up on 12th November from Juno Download

dRamatic & dbAudio – Far Away [MARS006]

We’ve been pushing the Mars sound on the Robot Bodypop show and blog for some time now and it’s when gems like this are presented before you that you realise a label has come into it’s own. dRamatic & dbAudio are both present for plate 006 and the title track ‘Days Running Out’ evokes memories of a late 90’s/ early 2000 vibe DnB track but kept upfront with some smooth production and use of vocals. It’s a beautiful track and the drop break firmly puts me back 10 years. It’s like a session with a badman psychologist who makes you regress to when your soul was controlled by the dancefloor. Very welcome anyway.
On the flip, personal favourites Total Science come with a remix of ‘Far Away’. On the build it creeps in like an old friend, the vocals make you wistfully ignore the the fact that the drums control this one. A beautiful track with a ridiculous key change some way through that brings the whole track up. Amazing work.

Out on the 29th October and available at all good retailers.

New D&B vibes from Breaks Symmetry label make this show as varied as it’s ever been. Get keen and listen in.

Egoless – Before/ After EP

The LoDubs label has steadily gained pace since it’s inception in 2006 as a sub label. Swiftly and without haste the label become and important part of modern bass music with their feature debuts from the likes of XI, 6Blocc, DZ, Bombaman, Starkey, Clubroot, Swarms and Cardopusher.

Their latest cut see’s Croation beatsmith Egoless on a 3 track E.P. ‘Before Dub’ is the opener and captures the roots vibe perfectly before the intruigingly titled ‘Woodpeckers Groove’ picks up the pace with skippy breaks and smooth harmonies rising throughout. ‘The Day After The Riot’ tops the E.P of with some traditional stabs and horns while the drums lay down the funky pattern and a subtle vocal rides over the lot.

A fine release, still only days old, and perfectly highlighting the versatility of this committed label.
