The ever ascending London artist Distinction is back with another mighty composition, this time we are treated to a remix of Jesse Ware‘s track ‘Devotion’, which features on her Brit Award & Mercury Prize nominated debut album of the same name. Check the original to get a flavour:
The vibe of the refix is much heavier, with turbulent synths and a heavily side-chained bass swelling under a striking vocal loop.
Subject of a far-reaching and well received remix contest on Soundcloud, this track from deep future garage producer Ghostek has so many different levels to it we fully expected to meet a big boss at the end.
The single itself comes in two parts, slyly different imaginings of the same theme. Part 1 builds the pace steadily with plenty of interest as the kick thumps along under the myriad textures and atmospheres. Part 2 becomes more crisp and more weird, with the introduction of a crunching snare plus some freaky distorted speech. Sangam drops in with an ambient remix followed by increasingly percussive variations by Myztical, SMAUG and Kalli. Checkthe Stranger cut below, also featured on the release
Parental advisory is required for this one. Raw vibes with venomous vocal delivery by Gravity comes remixed by Dubstep heavyweight BadKlaat and the mighty Requake. I won’t warn you a second time – if you are easily offended, f**k off now. C**t. Free to download.
The multifarious Actraiser returns with the second instalment in his Footwork Jungle mix series. Commencing with a frenetic 160 dancefloor focus, artists such as Fishstix, ChrissyMurderbot and Om Unit grace the playlist as it encroaches further and further into Drum and Bass territory. Taal Mala, Mark Kloud and Plug facilitate a mighty conclusion. Pure quality precisely as we have come to expect. Free to download.
18 year old Ruud Whiting has been a promising up and coming production talent in the Manchester bass scene for some time. We have always known he had it in him, but it has taken until now for his talents to be realised in this, his first ever EP.
Entitled ‘Burgerz & Chipz’, it is intended as a loose homage to the Manchester takeaway establishments which form the staple diets of many a discombobulated club-goer in the scramble for a meat and bread based treat. Gourmet it may not be, but at 4am it might as well be Gordon-fucking-Ramsey.
Staying true to the musicality which has helped set him apart from other producers, this EP contains 11 tracks of bass drenched melody, with influences ranging from blues, rock, dubstep, and hip hop molded to fit his in-your-face yet warm and smooth signature sound. The resultant groove is a funky party vibe, superbly listenable and highly recommended. Pick it up for free right here on mediafire.
As always we’ve sent out the bot to scour the interweb for the finest in free and legal downloads to shake your speakers. Or headphones if they aren’t them crap free ones.
First up is a young producer from Hungary, goes by the name of LeAp. A few free tracks there on his Soundcloud but it was ‘Main Stream’ that caught the bots ear chip. A deep electronic track with a sweet vocal and the bass ripples under the tight percussion while the beat switches throughout.
One again the FatKid delivers. Made available through the website which has become an important source for bass music fans everywhere. Big fans of Ghost Note and the Kiwi superproducer returns with yet another free EP. 4 tracks in there with ‘Transmission’ making the Robot Bodypop show set list this week but it wasn’t an easy selection as the other 3 tracks are just as lush. Smooth builds and deep drops a plenty as Ghost Note further finely tunes his sound.
1nejack features 2 freebies in his set this week, the first of which is an evocative garage piece from remixer and fully competent track smasher Enigma Dubz, titled ‘We At War’ sampling Kanye West‘s ‘Jesus Walks’. It’s a great track – well worth the click for the 320.
Lastly we have an off key grime riddim from Whyrez. This one has a bit of a old school Humphrey Bogart detective theme to it. Think 1940’s 12HP Rover saloons with trenchcoated hoodlums toting tommy guns hanging off the wings, shouting ‘oi blad!!’ to passers by. Or just listen, like, download and share.
We’re lucky enough to get a heads up on forthcoming releases here at Robot Bodypop, probably because we’re badman selectors of awesome music. With a couple of exclusives this week you can check out when and where to pick them up, which is something you should do if you know whats good for you.
Diffrent Records comes with release 013 adding Jekyl with ‘Drainpipe’ and ‘Blabbermouth’ to the strong back catalogue. The latter features on this weeks show but both sides of this plate are heavy. Dark and moody D&B just how we like it with both tracks standing tall as a sidestep from the usual stuff being churned out. This gets a release on 7th May with both tracks there to preview. Get involved.
Big fans of Utopia Music at Robot Bodypop with plenty of releases featured in the last few months and Utopia Music 008, due out on the 7th May, sees Mikal return with ‘The Chant’ b2b with ‘Headbanger’. The A side featured this week shows why Mikals moves have caught the attention from fellow musicians Goldie and Break amongst others. Jungle vibes on both sides with a focus on slick drum patterns. A serious plate with no fillers . Going places this lad. No lie.
big up Example Media for the heads up. Serious roster going on over there:
