Free Tunes

Just a couple of free cuts from me this week – First up is Riddlez with some persisently head rocking dubstep. ‘4, 3, 2, 1 Let’s Go’ jars you to the bone and I love it. But wait, it was only free for a limited time and he took it off his page already!! You’ll just have to listen to the show to see what you missed. Hey ho, I’m sure it will pop up again sometime – In the meantime here is a 72MB folder full of his other free dubs. Dang!

And just this week the legends that are C.R.S.T. have opened up their 2010 Futurestep EP for download free on soundcloud, seeing as you can no longer buy it anywhere. That’s nice that.

And it what seems to be a growing trend, Mancunian producers Biome are also having a clear out. This track Specimen was made in 2010 and never saw a release, so with it sitting around on his hard drive possibly not doing a whole lot why not unleash the forgotten beast for free? The tune falls quite comfortably into the ‘hench’ category. Grab it.

Next up Ghostek offers up this haunting 2-step number ‘Trust Me’ as a farewell bid to this sound that he’s made his own over the last few years. Looking forward to seeing what he’s going to come up with next.

Finally we have Mancunian supergroup North Base with a killer remix of the No Lay track ‘Drugs’ featuring Ms Dynamite. Hopefully you’ll be lucky to catch these guys live bring a 140bpm stomping set.

DJ Madd – The Real & The Shadow | Black Box Recordings

We here at the Robot Bodypop have been fans of Hungarian producer DJ Madd since day one. The main vein of this, his long awaited debut album, is deep, gloomy, and bass laden – backed with heavyweight drum tracks slamming over sinister textures. Compliment the boom and the bass with the vocal talents of Lady Maroo, Rebel MC and LX One and you have a perfect package.

Departures from the classic deep dubstep stylings come in the shape of tracks like ‘Body Pop’ which is a dark and techy electro stepper – And ‘Junglist’, an old skool ravey bass fest of breaks and ragga samples. The quality lives up to and surpasses expectations from this influential producer. We’re not being funny, but if you don’t buy this it probably means you touch kids.

DVA – Pretty Ugly | Hyperdub

New from the Hyperdub label, DVA‘s debut is an eclectic, glitched out funky affair. Being as varied as it is it may not please everyone, but music is subjective so we try not to impose our judgements where we can help it. The track featured on this week’s show ‘Bare Fuzz’ is a dancehall influenced funky house banger. Make sure you check it. Loving this one off the album as well;

Paper Tiger – Illuminated EP | Mind On Fire

This Leeds based future dub outfit go from strength to strength, constantly evolving and developing their sound  whilst sticking with a style that is distinctly their own – no easy feat with many artists struggling to keep the ideas flowing after their first release – yet this is Paper Tiger‘s third convincing outing to date and each is an improvement on the last. Back with Mancunian label Mind On Fire this trippy, perfectly syncopated and bright release draws on dub and funky house influences and hits all the right buttons. Preview tracks below and catch the beautiful ‘Delight Dub’ on this weeks show.
