Transmit Sessions Volume 3 | Controlled Kaos

ON THIS WEEKS SHOW:

This weeks transmission originates from way across the atlantic in the suburb of Chesterfield, Virginia deep inside the big ole US of A. Whilst yet to gain widespread recognition Controlled Kaos attention to detail and high workrate marks him out as one to watch in 2012.

Big on the drums and atmosphere, his tight sub weighted productions have featured on numerous free releases as well as the ‘Timelapse’ LP on the Dank N Dirty Dubz label. There’s a brand new 3 track EP in the offing on LU10 this month, and he also has forthcoming releases on Depth Records and Illicit Trade, including the heavy roller above – ‘The Force’. The brand new ‘Slug Proof EP’ is out now. 

In addition to that you can catch his regular radio broadcast every wednesday between 1pm and 2pm GMT (6pm-7pm EST in the US) via electrolouis.com. 

We asked what we thought would be a few routine questions to get to the man behind the music.

What was your first musical purchase?

My first musical purchase was a drum set.

Okay, great. Which is your favourite track in this playist? What does it make you think about? 

My favorite tune in the mix has to be Von D – Your the one, I love the jazzy vibes in it.

We’ve not seen you do many remixes – Is there anything you are keen to have a go at? How do you feel about the whole dubstep remixing trend? 

I am not really big on remixes because I prefer to write my own, remixes are fun to mess around with though. As far as the whole remixing “trend” I think some are good some are bad and some are people just doing it to try to get noticed.

What will be the next big thing?

I have no idea what the next big thing is, I just hope it sounds good haha

Whats the biggest animal you could throw over a crossbar?

On the Robot Bodypop show we like to feature up and coming producers and this week Mancunian Earl Grey caught our ears with a little freebie he popped off. Checking out his other tunes was a treat. Soulfull vibes are present through out and each track making the best use of space available. Smooth chords and use of harmonies make these deep tracks instant favourites in ‘ere. ‘Untitled 145’ and ‘Lone Wavelength’ are personal favourites. We here at the Robot Bodypop have been fans of Hungarian producer DJ Madd since day one. The main vein of this, his long awaited debut album, is deep, gloomy, and bass laden – backed with heavyweight drum tracks slamming over sinister textures. Compliment the boom and the bass with the vocal talents of Lady Maroo, Rebel MC and LX One and you have a perfect package.

Departures from the classic deep dubstep stylings come in the shape of tracks like ‘Body Pop’ which is a dark and techy electro stepper – And ‘Junglist’, an old skool ravey bass fest of breaks and ragga samples. The quality lives up to and surpasses expectations from this influential producer. We’re not being funny, but if you don’t buy this it probably means you touch kids.

Yes Yes! Really excited about this weeks Robot Bodypop show. Not least because of the badman selection but it also marks the start of the Transmit exclusive mixes. Soundphiles continue the exclusive mixes with Mancunian bass music producer, Dom Hz. Doms live sets make it clear that the boundaries of modern bass music are there to be blurred as he moves through vibes with intent. Alongside his own productions and remixes, Dom is also part of the collective, Joe Kalius which fuses the minds of DJ’s, producers and vocalists into one live experience and his recent side project, Stak One, which allows him to be more experimental, is also throwing up some incredible results.
