They Always Come Back – Submerse | Apollo Records

A couple of years ago Submerse was based in Leeds putting out strictly 4×4 and 2step tunes. This recent EP is part of a promising new phase for this young producer who now resides in his adopted spiritual homeland of Japan.

Starting with ‘8-bit Romance’ the tone is set for synthesised percussion, glitched synths and smudged out 8 bit chirps. From there we break into the Juke vibes of ‘They Always Come Back’ which features trademark processed vocals over a futuristic drum track with the occasional suggestion of an amens shuffle. This vibe continues in the same vein on ‘Give It Up’. The head nodding vibe of the opener is what we are left with on the final track ‘Cluster’ – a marvellously ambient piece of trip hop.

Available now on Juno – Look out for the Tears EP as well, currently only available on vinyl but well worth the pennies. Enjoy.

The Face EP – Disclosure | Greco Roman

Disclosure have experienced a huge amount of hype recently with their ‘Control’ rhythm which gained exposure from Zane Lowe on his show recently. It comes as part of a brand new EP which successfully combines club sounds with contemplative melodies, amping as well in the bedroom as they do on nightclub PA’s. This one is a release you will want to scoop quickly before everyone else already has it.

nonXero – Black Art

Set to drop on the 2nd June, US DJ & producer nonXero draws inspiration from reggae, grime, dubstep and future garage for this release on In The Mix records. ‘Black Art’ will be nonXeros 3rd album and its a reflection of his time spent in Detroit, Michigan. Wanting to identify the relationship between art, music and urban culture, nonXero uses samples recorded by himself to illustrate what he calls his ‘adventures’. Several stand out tracks such as the ‘Down Under’ VIP and ‘Will You Be Mine’ but its a solid collection of tracks that builds and builds. Bag it.

Also be sure to check out his soundcloud page as theres a stack of music on there.

Clubroot – S/T (III – MMXII) I LODUBS

Clubroot is without doubt one of the pioneers of the dubstep/future garage scene. His first album recieved wide acclaim, and despite being somewhat dismissively touted as the next Burial (a rather lazy distinction which is too often used) he has proved a staggering musical force in his own right. The ‘S/T’ (self-titled) trilogy culminates in this third release.

The signature sound is there, deep as we have come to expect, with intricate 2step percussion providing movement in the cold and desolate soundscape. Clocking in at just over an hour in total, there are ambient interludes in the form of ‘Ennio’s Eden’ and ‘Murmur Interlude’ and notable highlights in the shape of oddball unsettler ‘Demon Drum’, the haunting vibes of ‘My Kingdom’ and the hard edged step of ‘Garrison’.

All told, this is a great conclusion to a classic series which is sure to take a prominent place in your CD stack or vinyl collection for years to come. Check below for buy links, this one is out on Lodubs via bandcamp. Oh, and you can catch ‘Inviolable’ on this weeks show.

METRODOME – Natural Flavour preview – Free EP forthcoming

Metrodome – The name has reverberated throughout Manchester circles for nearly ten years, and yet the protagonist is only 17 years old. His first gig was a Hip Hop set at Manchester’s Contact Theatre. It was 2002 and Ruud Whiting was still only 8 years old busting intricate DJ maneuvers and stunning the crowd with his skills behind the turntables. Since then he has rocked capacity crowds in some of Manchester’s biggest nightclubs – He was at Sankey’s Soap in 2006 supporting Rahzel and JS-1 and more recently a dubstep set at Hit & Run in 2009 supporting the massive act Flux Pavillion – yet after the show it was Metrodome with the ratings. The little scamp, he just cant help but impress.

Keep eyes locked on this blog for details of his upcoming free EP and peep this exclusive preview of the first track, a stunningly futuristic garage head nodder from a true natural talent.
