Free Beats

As always we’ve sent out the bot to scour the interweb for the finest in free and legal downloads to shake your speakers. Or headphones if they aren’t them crap free ones.

First up is a young producer from Hungary, goes by the name of LeAp. A few free tracks there on his Soundcloud but it was ‘Main Stream’ that caught the bots ear chip. A deep electronic track with a sweet vocal and the bass ripples under the tight percussion while the beat switches throughout.

One again the FatKid delivers. Made available through the website which has become an important source for bass music fans everywhere. Big fans of Ghost Note and the Kiwi superproducer returns with yet another free EP. 4 tracks in there with ‘Transmission’ making the Robot Bodypop show set list this week but it wasn’t an easy selection as the other 3 tracks are just as lush. Smooth builds and deep drops a plenty as Ghost Note further finely tunes his sound.

1nejack features 2 freebies in his set this week, the first of which is an evocative garage piece from remixer and fully competent track smasher Enigma Dubz, titled ‘We At War’ sampling Kanye West‘s ‘Jesus Walks’. It’s a great track – well worth the click for the 320.

Lastly we have an off key grime riddim from Whyrez. This one has a bit of a old school Humphrey Bogart detective theme to it. Think 1940’s 12HP Rover saloons with trenchcoated hoodlums toting tommy guns hanging off the wings, shouting ‘oi blad!!’ to passers by. Or just listen, like, download and share.

Clueless – Griswald House EP | Frisjo Beats

We opened up our ongoing Transmit Series with a wicked mix from Clueless back in March. There’s been a break in releases from this prolific Norwegian producer, but he’s back in force with this 3 track powerhouse coming soon on the Frisjo Beats label.

Opening with the insistent percussion on ‘Build’ we cruise into chilled out summer garage vibes. Progressively deep with splashes of vocal samples, we are nicely led into the summer party feel of ‘Dirty Angel’, another 2-step roller.

Rounding off with the skippy drums and  frenetic vocal engineering in title track ‘Griswald House’ this completes another addition to an amazing month of releases.

Grab an exclusive on Juno before its official release on June 25th.

Until Silence – That Shine b/w Hands Tied | RED010

Not ones for sticking to a particular genre or vibe, here at the Robot Bodypop we are feeling this cut from Until Silence which is on a deep house tip. His second offering on the mighty Pushing Red label and one of the strongest releases yet. ‘That Shine’ kicks off with pulsating kicks and a strong vocal commands your attention. ‘Hands Tied’ is straight up feel good house. A solid 4/4 keeps the momentum strong with soulful male vocals thrown on top. Smooth chords bounce with the deep bassline. Love this. Pushing Red is certainly doing all it can to stay a commendable label amassing a serious back catalogue.

Out now and available at any online music retailer worth its salt.

ARP XP – Closer

Sometimes when choosing the selection for the Robot Bodypop show, you struggle to include everything we either find or get sent and when you get a gem like this album with 12 solid beats on it it makes it even tougher. But its one of them brilliant struggles if you dig? Simone Deiana is an Italian graphic artist and producer and his debut solo long player ‘Closer’ on French label IM:LTD is a banger. Meticulous attention to detail here makes these sounds incredibly exspansive and very tight. From the future D&B vibes of ‘Uneasy’ to the downbeat title track ‘Closer’ featuring Estel Luz words dont actually do this LP justice. Simply brilliant and refreshing.

Available on both Beatport & Juno

With a CD copy available from Triple Vision

Trouble – Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs | Polydor

T.E.E.D. set out to make album free from the limitations of the rinsed out fast burning electronic dance music trends that we see producers all too readily latching onto. In doing so he has created something that dances between Garage, Dubstep, House and Indie Rock music, and although he appears to not be taking himself overly seriously he does it with class.

Simply put, this is a very skillful album. It manages to hold interest whilst taking the listener on new journeys and giving you plenty to think about. Catchy as it is unpredictable, even if you end up deciding you don’t like it, it may take you a few changes of mind to arrive at that conclusion. This album is one which will keep you pondering – and hopefully dancing -long into the summer.
