Robot Bodypop 18.08.12 – 1st Birthday Edition

artwork by Brian Despain

One year since it’s immaculate conception, Robot Bodypop pull out all the stops to bring you a fitting celebration to end a great first year of podcasting. We have been very lucky to host and interview some amazing acts in our ongoing Transmit mix series and we hope to build on that into 2013. We are massively appreciative of our listeners, friends, relatives, producers, artists, labels and promoters that have helped and supported us along the way. To show how humble we are, we have stitched together an hour long back to back mix of some of our keenest selections to date for free download. Check the First Annuary Podcast feature below.

As for the show itself, 1nejack opens on the deep and emotional side of things with artists like Purity Ring, Maribou and 123MRK all gracing the playlist. Killian comes in a dutty dancefloor style – Major Lazer, Strategy and eccentric reggae don Lee Scratch Perry get a good rotation in his half of the show, but that’s not before we bring out this fortnight’s Survivor. Clear out your ears, open your mind and enjoy.

A killer is someone or something that kills, such as a murderer. “Killer” is also a slang term, an adjective denoting something of excellence or a high standard

Bring that slang over here because its more than appropriate. Absolute beast of a show this week on the Robot Bodypop. 1nejack is back within the atmosphere dropping gems and Killian comes with a Transmit mix so out there you might as well stick it in a time capsule and dig it up 20 years.

As always there’s the raw deep beats, this week most notably supplied by Tay, REKChampa and Beats Antique. There’s also freebies for fun such as cuts from Chimpo and an exclusive or two from Hectic & beat fiend Rdubz.

Topped off with a mix that literally pushes audio boundaries. Not even talking in cliches here. Ken Evil serves up 40 minutes of Juke, bass and all manner of original beats in the Transmit mix.

Fire.

This week Killian opens up with a merciless selection of subterranean dubplates to pound out of your subs until your ears cry black. His set features dark cuts from DubtekBiome, Benny Page and Swindle.

1nejack comes in with an arsenal of sound big enough to kick off the next cold war showcasing bangers from Suck Fake, Hostage, Kahn, Clueless to name a few.

A new feature this week is The Survivor. Each fortnight we will pick the cut that makes it to the next show. The aim is to survive in our playlist for as long as possible, so only perfection will make the grade. The levels are high and competition is dirty so stragglers should expect no mercy.

This week it’s Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs with their insanely unpredictable Future Garage riddim ‘Closer’ beating off all contenders. The intense bass line and crispy drums had us peaking last week. T.E.E.D. has the top spot for now, but will he still be here next fortnight? Only one way to find out – let’s bring it on.

Returning from a heavy Jubilee weekend out on the Crab Nebula, Killian miscalculated his re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere last week meaning he could not make the show. Last contact was made before he attempted a slingshot around Venus, which if successful should hopefully see him back here in a fortnight. God speed.

In his absence 1nejack plunges into the unknown on a journey through new and very awesome worlds of music. We have post-dubstep flavours from Stiver and Maths Time Joy, a filthy bit of freeness from Posij, deep tracks from Sparc and Seven, lyricism from Fliptrix and just plain utter flipped out weirdness from the likes of Lockah and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

It’s also competition time again this week as we give away two tickets to Chew The Fat! Club‘s party down at Cable on the 15th. Just send names for the guest list to robotbodypop@gmail.com and winners will be picked randomly by the 13th June 2012.

Our mighty Transmit mix this week comes from a long-time favourite on this show – Janner. This mix also sees him delving into his roots in Breaks and Drum & Bass, occasionaly drawing for some of his own farm fresh dub plates as he steers us through a kaleidoscope of space age rhythms. Essential listening for the explorers out there. Grab it now and open your mind!
