Mr Beeb – Ambivalence EP | B-Dem Records

Here’s an interesting debut for you – Mr. Beeb has been around for a while honing his skills, and this being his first EP he has based it around the concept of a failed relationship – So far so optimistic.

The skippy opener ‘Girl You Know’ bounces along nicely with softly stabby garage chords and a pleading male vocal. She’s apparently unhappy because he didn’t put enough sugar in her tea, but he wasn’t to know and is wondering why she’s pulled such a strop. In ‘Lost & Found’ the fella realises his mistake and laments the loss of her affections. By the time we reach the gritty ‘Metro’ any efforts to salvage dignity are abandoned and they are at each others throats, presumably in public. By the time we hit the dramatic conclusion on ‘Goin’ 747′ she has completely lost the plot with him and jumped on a plane in a fit of tears. An absolute tragedy!

This is great as a concept release, well realised and skilfully assembled. Just don’t expect to hear 4 party tracks here. This EP is probably best listened to drunk and alone as you put your ex’s stuff up on freecycle.

Kusto – Klaaatz | Bandcamp

Featured in this fortnight’s mix we have included some particularly spicy weight-laden Dubstep from Estonia. Kusto has already proved himself as a producer on his debut Pyongyang EP, and this release is living up to his previous successes. Brash, jarring and bristling with dubwise samples, ‘Klaaatz’ terrorises the dance like an angry pit bull. Grab it now before it bites you!

Chrissy Murderbot – Friendship EP | Halocyan Records

Brand new sounds from Chrissy Murderbot with his ‘Friendship EP’ absolutely smashing it out of the park this month. Whilst everyone else appears wrapped up in what ‘Trap music’ is and isn’t, the Murderbot pushes forward with his own steroid injected Juke sound. Here he breaks the underground out into the open with R&B samples, epileptic beats and hyperspeed synth work. Comes highly recommended, and if you listen to the tracks below you will see why.

Free Beats (or option to buy)

So much fresh music this fortnight. I’ve had a good rummage through Bandcamp and found a whole heap of free niceness. Good for me as I am on the verge of being destitute after an expensive trip away in the south of France. Good for you because we put all the great swag we find in one place for your ease and enjoyment. Whilst you can get all of these for free, you should pay the price you think is right where requested. The artists will certainly appreciate it.

So with heaps more grace than a grumpy French waitress allow me to present to you the first of the show’s offerings; The XXYYXX remix of Tinashe‘s “Let You Love Me’. Go on. Sniff it.

That wasn’t half bad, but wait ’til you hear what’s next – ‘Mind Grow’ by Moses had me reeling from the vibes coming off it. It must be the garlic.

Next up, ethnically inclined duo Beats Antique explore some rhythmic eastern themes in this great free album also available on Bandcamp. Check out our featured track ‘Shrine’. Very palatable.

Eleven8 – SOLACE002 (Alone/Remember Me/Scythe)

The second release from the Solace camp comes from Eleven8, one time Drum & Bass and now deep Dubstep producer with an ear for haunting intro’s and scurrilously dirty beats. Here he is talking about this release in an interview he did recently for KMag.

Preview the full release here:

Out July 23rd on Solace Recordings.

You can also pick up Eleven8‘s recent podcast for Solace free from their Soundcloud, or of course right here.

Koreless/Jacques Greene – Lost In Tokyo EP | Vase Forever

Jacques Greene and Koreless return for their second collaboration to date, this time on the Vase Forever label.

Koreless comes minimal and mellow as we would expect on the title track – a percussion track is hinted but those waiting for the ‘drop’ will have a disappointing time here.

Jacques Greene strikes a more rhythmic balance to the release with his particular set of skills on the remix ensuring a healthy future for this 12″ in many a club circle. We look forward to many more collaborations from this unlikely duo, who knows what they will come with next. An album maybe? Let’s see.
