Free To Download

In the gratis section this fortnight we have a heavy sack of loot for you to plunder. Support the artists where you can by liking and following their pages and maybe telling all your friends how great they are.

Starting off with this surging emotional future garage track from Kiro Rox we know we’ve struck gold already.

A few tracks into the mix and we’re in to a stunningly funky Maribou remix of Submotion Orchestra‘s track ‘Blindspot’. Stupendously good sounds.

From there we are hitting you square in the face with more freeness from Detz. This one is called ‘August’ and comes as part of a great ongoing series of free tunes based on calendar months. Click buy for the download.

Next is an apparently unfinished track from Inxect. To be honest, I can’t hear anything that needs changing. This is perfectly dark and eerie.

Next it’s Revilo with a sizzling track off the Disturbing Noise compilation which is available entirely for free if you just go and like their facebook page.

Finally Dublin based bass workers Your Local Vicar drop ‘The Grey Area’ in preparation for their forthcoming Rapture EP coming out on the Phantom Hertz label.

Transmit Sessions Vol 6 | Vaomm

Keeping with the summer vibe we’ve got going on this week, Siberian DJ and producer Vaomm takes a moment to talk to the Robot Bodypop and mixes up a 40 minute wonder filled with beats that are making him and his fellow Russians skank harder than the Kalinka.

Russia seems to be flourishing with some great producers. What do you think has influenced them into making underground bass music?

Ooh, I don’t know for sure, of course, this question is really personal, and I can just assume the main reasons or influences. From one hand, it can be kind of fashion, trend, of smth like that, cause all modern electronic music came from UK, and it can be “cool” to do stuff like they do. But, from the other side, it can be just a “call of soul”, if you know what I mean, and, I guess, there are more producers from the second variant, than from the first.

When making music, do you have an idea of what you want to make or do you go with the flow and see where you end up?

Mmm, sometimes I have an outlined concept in my mind, and simply try to take it out from my head to waveforms. Sometimes I have only an idea about melody, percussion or bassline, and build all parts of the composition on the basis of one part. But cause of my hard study in university, unfortunately, I have a little time for music, but I have lots of concepts, thoughts, ideas, hope to make them all soon.

What have your influences been, musically and otherwise?

Difficult question. You know, I’ve been listening to hip-hop for many years, and my favourite hip-hop groups and artists are Dilated Peoples (especially Evidence), Gang Starr, Tech N9ne (all Strange music label), Royce da 5’9”, and others. Sampling funk and jazz and soul…that makes a profound influence on me. Later, I’ve started to allocate bass and drums, these things lead me to dubstep sound with dark dirty vibes, like Skream, Kromestar, Silkie, and Deep Medi label. Here comes UK bass scene.
As for my music, I’m trying to catch everything I feel, see, hear and can pass through myself, that’s all 🙂

We like to keep the selection diverse on the Robot Bodypop show. How important do you think it is for people to try new things and create new sounds?

When you create something, you grow up and develop yourself. It doesn’t matter if it’s music, paintings, science or anything else. Creation is a movement, and movement is the most important thing in the life, I think.

Do you keep in close contact with your followers either at gigs or through social media?

Hahah, i’m open to everyone, but I want to say, that my parents, two cats, one dog, and a couple of friends, and that’s all, when I talk about my followers and it’s not so difficult to keep in close contact with them. 🙂

Tell us about the scene you’re involved in and how it works

So, i’m from Novosibirsk, it’s the city, which is called “The capital of Syberia”. Although, it has 1,5 mln population, there is a very weak bass scene here, bass producers can be counted on the fingers of one hand, I can allocate Pixelord (althouth he lives in Moscow, his roots come from my city), Melamin (Dubline Records), and, unfortunately, I can’t remember anyone else, except a couple of guys djs, who plays bass music during rare specific parties here, surely, most often it’s mainstream dubstep/dnb sound, but sometimes there are exceptions! Also, recently we’ve made some kind of community called NBD (nobody) Collective. It consists of me, Elmah and MO’ STRBLGHTZ, who presented me an exclusive dubplate, which I’ve put in my mix for your show.

Do you have an idea for a dream collaboration?

Of course! It will be great to collab with Swarms, Clubroot, Burial, Phaeleh, Synkro and others and others, but, it’s only dream 😉

Nice. Some of our favourite producers there.

Whats your favourite song in your collection and why?

There are lots of them in different genres, but at this moment, when i’m answering this question, the track, which I prefer to listen again and again, is Clubroot – Waterways, because of its deep, highly atmospheric and very melancholic sound.

Tell me about the best night you’ve played at and what made it memorable?

It was november 2011, I was one of the promoters of these party, it was called: “Bass to ya face, London!”, and all night there are a lot of djs playin the music from Britain streets like breaks, jungle, dubstep, etc. It was awesome, and there are many people, many happy smiles and good mood.

Whats the biggest animal you can throw over a crossbar?

What?…maybe my dog, lol

Free Beats

Just a few tracks for free this week but they are varied, solid and more importantly legal because thats how we roll on the Robot Bodypop show. Digging out the freebies so you don’t have to.

First up is a deep dubstep track from young Accrington based Epoxy named ‘Cut Off’. Clean production and fierce sounds make this a must-have. Bag it from the Autopsy Audio Soundcloud page and there’s plenty of other free cuts on there too. Indulge.

Next up is another example of why Bandcamp is a badman source for music both free and paid. ‘Sun For Days’ by Fetch features on this weeks Robot Bodypop show and comes part of a 5 track E.P entitled The Formula Vol.1. Summer vibes going on with some slick guitar hooks. Lovely warm riddim. You can bag it for free but it’s nice to chuck these guys even just a quid for their trouble. Do it. Do it now. All 5 cuts are dope.

Get involved.

Transmit Sessions Vol 4 | N. Killah and NRealm Recs

ON THIS WEEK’S SHOW:

With the Transmit Sessions we’re trying to get people to represent their individual sounds and vibes be it through music they make or put out there for others through imprints and releases. Russia’s N.Killah keeps it all in house. Both D.J. and producer he also founded and runs the mighty N.Realm Recs label. The label is dedicated to, in his own words, ‘true dubstep’.

Keeping to the deep vibes but not scared to experiment, the label has already stacked up an impressive release roster with plenty more to come throughout 2012. The most recent release is N.Killahs impressive ‘The End’ E.P

On top of all this, N.Killah also manages to find time to put out the 4VIVBES podcast which is packed full of plenty of bass music featuring some of the labels other artists. The most recent show sees Forensics in the mix with a serious selection of tracks from all corners.

4VIBES Podcast>

N.Killah kindly took a minute to talk to us:

1. how did N:realm recordings come to be? have you always wanted to run your own label?

N;realm has been created absolutely spontaneously. First I released two of my own tracks. Then my friends have supported me and gave their tracks for free.

2. You appear to be very proud of what you’re building with N.Realm Recs. Tell me about the dubstep scene in Russia

The stage exists. There is a lot of awsome artists, various podcasts, radio shows…
But much less fans of true dubstep. 80 percent of dubstep people likes Skrillex
and think that this is a gold standard of fat sound.

3. Social networking means its easier to build a more personal relationship with followers of your music. How important is it for you to keep in close contact with fans of your music?

I always keep in it. For example in time of tour after each set I always buy some beers and buzz with “mortals” I always answer on messages in social networks.

4. whats your favourite track on your label?

Hard to make a choice ’cause I like everyone. But leaders is:
1 Roofout – Best Spring
2 Crispo – Moments
3 N.Killah – Maybe

5. what producers should we look out for?

N’Killah! No kidding is Faib, Pixelord, Roofout, Crispo (CRSP), Reixtra.

6. whats your favourite track in your record collection and why?

Tes La Rok – Cold Blooded – I never get tired of that track!

7. what are your influences?

Everything around… Music, movies, videogames, smoke

8. Do you think its important for producers to try new things musically?

To do something new is important in any deed. Progress is our life!

9. When are you bringing Robot Bodypop to Russia?

When russian people stop sacrifice their kids in the name of Skrillex.
But I told about RBP to my fans and friends.

10. Whats the biggest animal you can throw over a crossbar?

Dog Sony ERS-7W AIBO ))

Utopia Music & Diffrent Records

We’re lucky enough to get a heads up on forthcoming releases here at Robot Bodypop, probably because we’re badman selectors of awesome music. With a couple of exclusives this week you can check out when and where to pick them up, which is something you should do if you know whats good for you.

Diffrent Records comes with release 013 adding Jekyl with ‘Drainpipe’ and ‘Blabbermouth’ to the strong back catalogue. The latter features on this weeks show but both sides of this plate are heavy. Dark and moody D&B just how we like it with both tracks standing tall as a sidestep from the usual stuff being churned out. This gets a release on 7th May with both tracks there to preview. Get involved.

Big fans of Utopia Music at Robot Bodypop with plenty of releases featured in the last few months and Utopia Music 008, due out on the 7th May, sees Mikal return with ‘The Chant’ b2b with ‘Headbanger’. The A side featured this week shows why Mikals moves have caught the attention from fellow musicians Goldie and Break amongst others. Jungle vibes on both sides with a focus on slick drum patterns. A serious plate with no fillers . Going places this lad. No lie.

big up Example Media for the heads up. Serious roster going on over there:

DRS / Dub Phizix / Mako / Skeptical / Skittles / Strategy / Villem /

Diffrent Records / Dispatch Records / Estate UK / Ingredients Records / Mars Recordings / Mindset Records / Red Seal / Samurai Music / Soul : R / Symmetry Recordings / Utopia Music /
