Amoss – State Of Suspension E.P

Set for a release on July 9th, Dispatch Recordings brings Hereford duo Amoss to the forefront with this 4 track E.P. Featuring collabos from Fokuss and Dabs and an extra exclusive on the digital copy. ‘Rollpipe’ made it onto the Robot Bodypop playlist this week as it got us dancing hardest in the studio. The beats are clean and deep and the vocal stabs and build works perfectly alongside the neurofunk bass. ‘New Jack Swing’ picks up where 90’s D&B rollers left off and updates it with tight drum work and a liquid vocal. ‘Shapeshifter’ and ‘Latch’ round this release off with 4 tracks that yet again revive life into D&B.

Stray ft. Halogenix – Warm 022

Warm Communications have featured heavily on the Robot Bodypop, not least because of the diversity on the label. Their latest release with Stray ft. Halogenix on the new double A-side has been making waves within the D&B scene. No surprise because this release is indicative of producers wanting to try new things. ‘The Pursuit’ is a blend of ridiculously tight percussion & groove bass interspersed with sweet amens and smooth atmospherics. Made me feel like a getaway driver.
On the flip is the track that made it onto the Robot Bodypop show this week. Stray teaming up with Halogenix goes by the name ‘Poison’. Builds up with smooth pads before literally attacking your beat judgement with some work I’ve never heard anywhere else. I’m still trying to get my head round it so I’m gonna stop trying to describe how much I love the vocal cut over the skippy riddim and leave you to listen yourself.

Not been this excited about a single in a while purely for what it might do for other producers. Bag this on the 16th July and beyond.

Fracture – Lately / Tunnel Track

Texas based imprint Warm Communications latest cut is a double header from London based Fracture.  Label boss Heath is keen to keep the label diverse whilst pushing some of the finest producers around in Seba, Equinox and Resound to name a few and the new release from Fracture sits perfectly in their catalogue. Both tracks feature on this weeks Robot Bodypop show.

Up first its a sweet remix of Ella Jones’ ‘Lately’ which builds with nice vibes and a track here just in time for the summer.

On the flip the mood is darker with ‘Tunnel Track’ and it’s refreshing to hear D&B sounding this good again. Haunting pads with solid beats gets the head nodding and the feet moving.

Out on May 14th and both cuts perfect for the dancefloor or home. Or on the bus. Or toilet…………you get the idea.

Utopia Music & Diffrent Records

We’re lucky enough to get a heads up on forthcoming releases here at Robot Bodypop, probably because we’re badman selectors of awesome music. With a couple of exclusives this week you can check out when and where to pick them up, which is something you should do if you know whats good for you.

Diffrent Records comes with release 013 adding Jekyl with ‘Drainpipe’ and ‘Blabbermouth’ to the strong back catalogue. The latter features on this weeks show but both sides of this plate are heavy. Dark and moody D&B just how we like it with both tracks standing tall as a sidestep from the usual stuff being churned out. This gets a release on 7th May with both tracks there to preview. Get involved.

Big fans of Utopia Music at Robot Bodypop with plenty of releases featured in the last few months and Utopia Music 008, due out on the 7th May, sees Mikal return with ‘The Chant’ b2b with ‘Headbanger’. The A side featured this week shows why Mikals moves have caught the attention from fellow musicians Goldie and Break amongst others. Jungle vibes on both sides with a focus on slick drum patterns. A serious plate with no fillers . Going places this lad. No lie.

Utopia Music 007 – Mute & Mako

Mako’s Utopia Music label returns with the mighty Mute alongside the man himself with 2 storming drum and bass cuts. Both featured on this weeks Robot Bodypop show.

First up is the atmospheric and moody ‘Cali Sleaze’. A future soundscape that we’ve come to love at the RBP.

On the flip its the techy and industrial roller ‘Always’. Heavy subs alongside vocal stabs coupled with a deep groove. Love it.

Released on 30th April. Bag it.

Samurai Horo – HOR001

Once again taking the unfamiliar, and unpopular route, Samurai Music / Red Seal has created a vinyl only record series for 2011. With the public’s disposable view of music rapidly increasing as we go further and further into the digital age, Horo want to put value back into their released recordings and in turn reward the people that still pay the most for their music. ‘Horo’ was a cloak attached to the back of armour worn by elite Samurai messengers in wartime. Capturing an elite tsukai-ban messenger wearing a horo was a coveted prize. The ‘Horo’ vinyl series is an exclusive limited edition series that will come as a pre cursor to a release by the same artist on Samurai Music or Samurai Red Seal. Samurai Music began it’s output on 10″ singles that identified us strongly, so we are glad to see the return to the 10″ format for these limited collectors items.

Future music at its very experimental best with these two cuts from Tokyo Prose & FIS
