This Leeds based future dub outfit go from strength to strength, constantly evolving and developing their sound  whilst sticking with a style that is distinctly their own – no easy feat with many artists struggling to keep the ideas flowing after their first release – yet this is Paper Tiger‘s third convincing outing to date and each is an improvement on the last. Back with Mancunian label Mind On Fire this trippy, perfectly syncopated and bright release draws on dub and funky house influences and hits all the right buttons. Yes Yes! Really excited about this weeks Robot Bodypop show. Not least because of the badman selection but it also marks the start of the Transmit exclusive mixes. ON THIS WEEKS SHOW:

To blast off our TRANSMIT series in style we have invited prolific Norwegian DJ and future beat maker CLUELESS to bring the noise with this funky 45 minute mix of body moving future steppers. With a number of releases on labels such as L2S Recordings and Night Audio we are honored to play host to this formidable talent.

 What is your favourite track in this mix and what does it make you think about?

I’d have to go for the first track in the mix, “Mandy” by Palace. It’s a proper 2-step groove, and the bassline is so mean, it borders on the silly.. I picture a couple of big trolls skanking to this in the club, wanting to look mean but deep down everyone knows they’re good-hearted.

How do you feel about DJs becoming more and more acquainted with tools beyond turntables? Is there anything extra you like to take with you for live shows?

It’s all good, the music is what’s important anyway. Myself, when I DJ I’m pretty old-school, I can use cds but I prefer vinyl – there’s really nothing like that tactile feel when playing records.

Name the best venue or location you have played to and why it was so good.

I played at Stealth in Nottingham a couple years ago, warming up for Shackleton on Spam Chop’s Wigflex night. Amazing vibe, the crowd was well into it, and I was pretty stoked to be warming up for one of my heroes..

You have a pretty amazing workrate. What tips can you give to other musicians to keep up the inspiration and stay productive?

Don’t have a life, that takes the focus away. 🙂 And listen to all kinds of music – personally I get a lot of inspiration listening to Indie music; Bon Iver, Arcade Fire etc.. And make music with your heart, not your head.

Whats the largest animal you can throw over a crossbar?

I support animal rights, so I’m not really comfortable with throwing any sort of animal over crossbars. Maybe if you made sure they weren’t harmed, like if they were to land on something soft.. In which case, I reckon I could pull off a sheep maybe, or a small tapir.

Skittles – Poor With £100 Trainers

Hotly anticipated on the Estate Recordings label, wordsmith Skittles returns with his second LP. The album features Skittles own productions alongside Chimpo, Dub Phizix and DRS alongside vocals from Mr Fox and Fallacy. A serious recipe for a long player. The album features cuts released previously as a taster such as ‘Tip-i-Cally’, ‘Boys In Blue’ and the monster ‘Dot2Dot’ as well as some fresh cuts like Robot Bodypop favourite, ‘Lying Here’. As Estate Recordings like to put it:

Imagine a piece of classical music, put it in a blender and add some reggae/ska to it, throw a load of broken instruments in the mix and a few proper cold rappers, sprinkle in some grime an a vinyl,add a bit of pop an pulse until smooth, an you will have nothing like what this album is.

Released on the 5th March in Manchester where you can catch the launch party at The Deaf Institute with a worldwide release following on the 12th March. Pick this album up. Don’t sleep.

Soundphiles continue the exclusive mixes with Mancunian bass music producer, Dom Hz. Doms live sets make it clear that the boundaries of modern bass music are there to be blurred as he moves through vibes with intent. Alongside his own productions and remixes, Dom is also part of the collective, Joe Kalius which fuses the minds of DJ’s, producers and vocalists into one live experience and his recent side project, Stak One, which allows him to be more experimental, is also throwing up some incredible results.
