Clueless – Griswald House EP | Frisjo Beats

We opened up our ongoing Transmit Series with a wicked mix from Clueless back in March. There’s been a break in releases from this prolific Norwegian producer, but he’s back in force with this 3 track powerhouse coming soon on the Frisjo Beats label.

Opening with the insistent percussion on ‘Build’ we cruise into chilled out summer garage vibes. Progressively deep with splashes of vocal samples, we are nicely led into the summer party feel of ‘Dirty Angel’, another 2-step roller.

Rounding off with the skippy drums and  frenetic vocal engineering in title track ‘Griswald House’ this completes another addition to an amazing month of releases.

Grab an exclusive on Juno before its official release on June 25th.

Until Silence – That Shine b/w Hands Tied | RED010

Not ones for sticking to a particular genre or vibe, here at the Robot Bodypop we are feeling this cut from Until Silence which is on a deep house tip. His second offering on the mighty Pushing Red label and one of the strongest releases yet. ‘That Shine’ kicks off with pulsating kicks and a strong vocal commands your attention. ‘Hands Tied’ is straight up feel good house. A solid 4/4 keeps the momentum strong with soulful male vocals thrown on top. Smooth chords bounce with the deep bassline. Love this. Pushing Red is certainly doing all it can to stay a commendable label amassing a serious back catalogue.

Out now and available at any online music retailer worth its salt.

ARP XP – Closer

Sometimes when choosing the selection for the Robot Bodypop show, you struggle to include everything we either find or get sent and when you get a gem like this album with 12 solid beats on it it makes it even tougher. But its one of them brilliant struggles if you dig? Simone Deiana is an Italian graphic artist and producer and his debut solo long player ‘Closer’ on French label IM:LTD is a banger. Meticulous attention to detail here makes these sounds incredibly exspansive and very tight. From the future D&B vibes of ‘Uneasy’ to the downbeat title track ‘Closer’ featuring Estel Luz words dont actually do this LP justice. Simply brilliant and refreshing.

Available on both Beatport & Juno

Trouble – Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs | Polydor

T.E.E.D. set out to make album free from the limitations of the rinsed out fast burning electronic dance music trends that we see producers all too readily latching onto. In doing so he has created something that dances between Garage, Dubstep, House and Indie Rock music, and although he appears to not be taking himself overly seriously he does it with class.

Simply put, this is a very skillful album. It manages to hold interest whilst taking the listener on new journeys and giving you plenty to think about. Catchy as it is unpredictable, even if you end up deciding you don’t like it, it may take you a few changes of mind to arrive at that conclusion. This album is one which will keep you pondering – and hopefully dancing -long into the summer.

Returning from a heavy Jubilee weekend out on the Crab Nebula, Killian miscalculated his re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere last week meaning he could not make the show. Last contact was made before he attempted a slingshot around Venus, which if successful should hopefully see him back here in a fortnight. God speed.

In his absence 1nejack plunges into the unknown on a journey through new and very awesome worlds of music. We have post-dubstep flavours from Stiver and Maths Time Joy, a filthy bit of freeness from Posij, deep tracks from Sparc and Seven, lyricism from Fliptrix and just plain utter flipped out weirdness from the likes of Lockah and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

It’s also competition time again this week as we give away two tickets to Chew The Fat! Club‘s party down at Cable on the 15th. Just send names for the guest list to robotbodypop@gmail.com and winners will be picked randomly by the 13th June 2012.

Our mighty Transmit mix this week comes from a long-time favourite on this show – Janner. This mix also sees him delving into his roots in Breaks and Drum & Bass, occasionaly drawing for some of his own farm fresh dub plates as he steers us through a kaleidoscope of space age rhythms. Essential listening for the explorers out there. Grab it now and open your mind!

Transmit Sessions Volume 7 | Janner

Fusion time – but not in the Jazz sense. We’re talking Fukishima levels of heat and radiation here! We’ve had to keep this one on ice in a reinforced nuclear bunker for the past few months due to the glow emenating from the hard drive – Now its time to break open the asbestos seals..

Janner delivers a meticulous meltdown of diverse and intriguing tracks fusing sounds from his influences and contemparies’ along with his own productions.

We caught up with the man himself and asked the standard questions.

Long time no hear from. What have you been up to?

Hmmm not a lot of interest to be honest! Lots of really middle-aged stuff like working for the man and child-rearing… I’ll be getting back on those buttons shortly tho.

Middle age can wait – We need more tunes! Belgium is home to some really great bass music artists. Are there any you would care to recommend?

Absolutely. Obviously there’s my mate BunZer0 who I’ve done a number of releases with and who was one of the first people to get me into Dubstep through his legendary Fresh Off The Boat show. Bun has been taking big steps froward with his productions and has been making some cracking beats this year. Then you have Dailey pushing the 2-step sound, the Science crew and ARtronics who are pushing the deeper darker stuff, and last but not least the Grimlock crew who as well as having made some amazing tunes, also put on some incredible parties back in the day.

We like the fact your sound is not formulaic and you always try new things in your music. What is it that drives you and what will be your next direction?

Thanks! I guess what drives me is the base desire to make music for myself, and what i like to listen to is stuff that challenges me from a rhythmic perspective, but also has melodic structure as well as being sonically impressive. The worst thing is getting stuck in a rut so I’m always trying to push forward – or look backwards if that is what I’m in the mood for. I want tracks to be inspirational so I guess that is what I am aiming at when I sit at the console. Next direction? No idea.

You have lived in Plymouth, Manchester and Brussels. What comparisons can you draw between each city’s music scenes?

Well when I was growing up in Plymouth we had an amazing time but it wasn’t due to there being many great parties…I was a few years too late for rave, and back when I was a kid, DnB was only really available on vinyl and very little of it filtered down as far as Devon. Then when I got to Manchester it was a revelation as Ed Rush and Optical had just dropped Wormhole and the whole dark Techstep/Neurofunk thing was kicking off. Gotta say I went to some pretty amazing nights that were a huge contrast versus my sheltered southwesterly upbringing. Then when I moved out to Brussels it took a while for me to discover the local events, and also a while for Dubstep to kick off, but then things started properly happening and I went to some truly brilliant nights.

Who skanks the hardest?

Not trying to blow smoke up your arse, but I’d have to say Manchester.

Haha, yes mate! <brofist> What is the most annoying thing about the music you work in?

That’s a tough one. Probably the speed at which everything moves now, and how quickly the formula is identified for something that was previously emergent, allowing it to be pinned down and bled dry. Kinda takes the romance out of the discovery process as well as stifling creative development.

On the flip side, what makes you happiest?

Drums, breaks, prehensile, tentacular basslines, and the imaginative ways people find of making them interact.

What’s the biggest animal you can throw over a crossbar?

Possibly a Coconut Land Crab.

Thanks again for such an awesome mix! Big up!
