Ext – Sleepwalking EP | Forthcoming Slime Recordings

Fresh out of the Slime camp Ukrainian 2-step producer Ext comes correct with this new 2 track EP. ‘Sleepwalking’ has a euphoric garage vibe, with rainwater trickling over filtered down beats and some beautifully treated vocal snippets. The second track is on an abberant liquid drum and bass tip and the groove is kept with dark bass conveying what we percieve to be a chopped up soul sample.

Another great addition to the Slime catalog. Available November 19th

Pále – Catacombs EP | Forthcoming Fat! Recordings

Manchester boy Pále has been on a steady climb with the Fat! outfit since early 2011. At only 18 years old, his sound has already reached a maturity that many producers twice his age could never hope to match.

Despondent pads open up the title track, with incidental kicks that quickly multiply building an energetic rhythm. Ghost like chords play off distant vocals as we rush towards a heady crescendo. ‘Oak Music’ maintains the same liquescent pace with beautiful organic percussion and ornate arpeggiated melodies, whispering vocals and celestial pads giving the track a feeling of infinite depth. ‘Orchidea’ ties everything up with a languid vocal loop carrying unconcerned piano melodies over the enduring drum track.

Available from Fat! Records 22nd October

My Nu Leng – The Grid/Hips N Thighs | Forthcoming 877 Records

One track that caught our ears this past week is the thoroughly murky sound of My Nu Leng‘s latest banger ‘The Grid’. With the massive ‘Hip’s N Thighs’ featuring on the flip this will no doubt be one of the most eagerly anticipated vinyls to drop in October.

No release date has been published as yet although we are assured it will be soon – we are keeping our eyes peeled. Formats are vinyl & digital.

Retrospekt – Rolling EP | Forthcoming Slime Recordings

Next up on the Slime Recordings assembly line comes another multi-faceted release, this time from heterogenous London button master Retrospekt.

‘Rolling’ starts with an arpeggiated bassline swiftly breaking off into a delicious electro synth lead, backed by opulent eastern vocal samples and unfaltering 4 by 4 percussion. ‘Rebuilding Dreams’ begins in a mellow jazz climate until jagged electro vibes kick in, dripped with soaking wet FX-heavy vocals. Keeping with the EP’s electro theme Resketch does a faithfully funky remix of ‘Rolling’ before Livewire ups the tempo with a slick liquid Drum & Bass version.

Out on Slime Recordings November 5th 2012

Kid Koala – 12 Bit Blues

This one is a concept album after my own heart. Digging in the crates for old school blues legends like Son House, Vancouver-born Kid Koala combines turntablism and glitched lo-fi production with the lumbering  guitar and piano riffs of the 12 bar blues, creating something epic.

‘The 12 Bit Blues’ is out now on Ninja Tune. He’s also about to begin a world tour featuring dancers, puppets and a huge cardboard gramaphone(?). Playing Manchester UK on the 13th October.

Rudy Zygadlo – Tragicomedies | Planet Mu

An impressive leftfield choice for September is Glasgow born producer Rudi Zygadlo‘s debut album out on Planet Mu entitled ‘Tragicomedies’.

Taking just a pinch of the formula from the current sound of Dubstep and Bass music, this journey through psychadelic piano melodies and vocal harmony draws far more from classic bands like Queen or The Beatles than it does Skream or Benga

Whichever way you look at it, it is a masterpiece which demands your attention. Earlier this month Rudi kindly released the potent ‘Russian Dolls’ track for free download, so if you are stretched for pennies you can grab before buying the full release.

An instant classic – available now from Planet Mu.
