Mr Skank Sinatra

Young producer Dan Clapham aka Mr Skank Sinatra is but one of the young producing talents from Manchester and after only producing for a little over a year he is celebrating his first release. ‘You’re Right Here’, featured on the Robot Bodypop show, got a release this month on Morbit Records and we are loving it. Classy dubstep vibes on this cut with a remix on the flip are hopefully a taster of whats to come. There’s also a serious amount of freebies on his Soundcloud which show that this chap is capable of carving his own sound with future-led beats alongside root sounding dubs. We’re excited to keep an eye on his future projects.

Also forthcoming is ‘Herbalist’ which is a deep and relaxed roller. Check it out along with everything else

Project 13 Manchester

Underground music continues to flourish with the passion of either a solo player or collective group. Its this passion that has gained streaming audio/ visual radio station Project 13 recognition and a following in Manchester and beyond. Going out live from the studio (which also doubles as one of the founders bedrooms) every Wednesday, this group pushes the boundaries of the genres they frequent. Branching out into club nights and now also podcasts its unknown in what direction this collective will head next but they are a solid and reliable choice for bass heavy music. Alongside the residents, recent guests have included Thelem, Guy Richards, Hedmuk, Compa, Biome and Pandemik with many of the shows available on the channels archives. Be sure to check these guys out.

Best Believe It’s Free! EP Volume 2 – Dench Recordings

Big freebie from last month – Courtesy of Dench Recordings, this funky garagey 6 track bonanza holds some serious weight. Kicking off with a couple of crunk/hip hop remixes from Jaycek and Gage, the bragging soon stops and on track 3 we are into 4-to-the-floor territory with Vybem’s airy garage cut You Were Wrong. From there the pressure builds and builds to a big finale from Checan. You can check that last track out on this weeks show.

Emmerson & Klauser: A Latin Thing

Meet Emmerson & Klauser, one of South America’s hottest Bass Music duos. Coming from Venezuela and Chile, these two DJ/Producers began their partnership in early 2011 at Santiago de Chile’s legendary Rewind parties.

United in their common love for huge subs and tropical rhythms, they’ve collaborated on original tracks and remixes, generating lots of buzz and serious dancefloor pressure all the way from Soundcloud to huge parties across South America, the US, and Europe.

More amazing freeness of a tropical nature. Why does anyone even buy music anymore? Check it out and get the zip file here.

Silent Dust

Silent Dust is the project of UK duo Dan Blishen (originally from Manchester) and Andy Hobbs (hailing from Kent), who produced Drum & Bass together for years under the respective monikers Zyon Base and Hobzee.

Their self-titled debut, ‘Silent Dust,’ brings their signature D&B sound into a different light, drawing from a wide range of influences – ambient, drum & bass, garage, dub, breakbeat and soundtracks. The result is a collection of deep, bass-laden productions that sound like absolutely nothing else, filled with lush arrangements, an array of found sounds (‘footsteps, vinyl crackle, sellotape stretching’), cinematic vocal samples and glitchy, idiosyncratic drum programming.  Though it’s driven by experimentation, this is a D&B record at heart: even the ambient tracks were written at 160-170 BPM.

We are well impressed by this debut. Personal favourites are ‘A Million Words’ and ‘Shadows On The Wall’, which features in this weeks podcast. Check previews of all the tracks below, then click a link to buy.

Phillip D Kick (Om Unit) – Footwork Jungle Vols I, II and III

Om Unit is one of those prolific producers that has his fingers in pies everywhere. This series of free downloads under the Blade-Runner inspired moniker Philip D Kick re-visits classic Jungle tracks and gives them a Juke/Footwork makeover. Seeing as both Jungle and Drum & Bass are bass heavy club genres with syncopated beats and 160bpm (or thereabouts) tempos it seemed natural to blend them together. The results are staggering. Volume 3 was the final in the series, completed last month. Download all 3 volumes here.
