Stray ft. Halogenix – Warm 022

Warm Communications have featured heavily on the Robot Bodypop, not least because of the diversity on the label. Their latest release with Stray ft. Halogenix on the new double A-side has been making waves within the D&B scene. No surprise because this release is indicative of producers wanting to try new things. ‘The Pursuit’ is a blend of ridiculously tight percussion & groove bass interspersed with sweet amens and smooth atmospherics. Made me feel like a getaway driver.
On the flip is the track that made it onto the Robot Bodypop show this week. Stray teaming up with Halogenix goes by the name ‘Poison’. Builds up with smooth pads before literally attacking your beat judgement with some work I’ve never heard anywhere else. I’m still trying to get my head round it so I’m gonna stop trying to describe how much I love the vocal cut over the skippy riddim and leave you to listen yourself.

Not been this excited about a single in a while purely for what it might do for other producers. Bag this on the 16th July and beyond.

Warm Communications

Free Beats

As always we’ve sent out the bot to scour the interweb for the finest in free and legal downloads to shake your speakers. Or headphones if they aren’t them crap free ones.

First up is a young producer from Hungary, goes by the name of LeAp. A few free tracks there on his Soundcloud but it was ‘Main Stream’ that caught the bots ear chip. A deep electronic track with a sweet vocal and the bass ripples under the tight percussion while the beat switches throughout.

One again the FatKid delivers. Made available through the website which has become an important source for bass music fans everywhere. Big fans of Ghost Note and the Kiwi superproducer returns with yet another free EP. 4 tracks in there with ‘Transmission’ making the Robot Bodypop show set list this week but it wasn’t an easy selection as the other 3 tracks are just as lush. Smooth builds and deep drops a plenty as Ghost Note further finely tunes his sound.

Ghost Note

1nejack features 2 freebies in his set this week, the first of which is an evocative garage piece from remixer and fully competent track smasher Enigma Dubz, titled ‘We At War’ sampling Kanye West‘s ‘Jesus Walks’. It’s a great track – well worth the click for the 320.

Lastly we have an off key grime riddim from Whyrez. This one has a bit of a old school Humphrey Bogart detective theme to it. Think 1940’s 12HP Rover saloons with trenchcoated hoodlums toting tommy guns hanging off the wings, shouting ‘oi blad!!’ to passers by. Or just listen, like, download and share.

ARP XP – Closer

Sometimes when choosing the selection for the Robot Bodypop show, you struggle to include everything we either find or get sent and when you get a gem like this album with 12 solid beats on it it makes it even tougher. But its one of them brilliant struggles if you dig? Simone Deiana is an Italian graphic artist and producer and his debut solo long player ‘Closer’ on French label IM:LTD is a banger. Meticulous attention to detail here makes these sounds incredibly exspansive and very tight. From the future D&B vibes of ‘Uneasy’ to the downbeat title track ‘Closer’ featuring Estel Luz words dont actually do this LP justice. Simply brilliant and refreshing.

Available on both Beatport & Juno

Once again, all stops have been pulled out for the latest Robot Bodypop show and its a killer selection this week. Theres a number of exclusives from the young and incredibly talented local boy (to us anyway), Metrodome as well as Fracture with his forthcoming release on Warm Communications. No fillers on these shows with bangers such as the Doctor vocal cut, an oldie from SBTRKT and some other personal favourites. Last but not least its the frankly awesome Rekchampa with the latest Transmit guestmix and its all original work by himself and its representing the sound he’s working very hard to forge.

Fracture – Lately / Tunnel Track

Texas based imprint Warm Communications latest cut is a double header from London based Fracture.  Label boss Heath is keen to keep the label diverse whilst pushing some of the finest producers around in Seba, Equinox and Resound to name a few and the new release from Fracture sits perfectly in their catalogue. Both tracks feature on this weeks Robot Bodypop show.

Up first its a sweet remix of Ella Jones’ ‘Lately’ which builds with nice vibes and a track here just in time for the summer.

On the flip the mood is darker with ‘Tunnel Track’ and it’s refreshing to hear D&B sounding this good again. Haunting pads with solid beats gets the head nodding and the feet moving.

Out on May 14th and both cuts perfect for the dancefloor or home. Or on the bus. Or toilet…………you get the idea.

Utopia Music & Diffrent Records

We’re lucky enough to get a heads up on forthcoming releases here at Robot Bodypop, probably because we’re badman selectors of awesome music. With a couple of exclusives this week you can check out when and where to pick them up, which is something you should do if you know whats good for you.

Diffrent Records comes with release 013 adding Jekyl with ‘Drainpipe’ and ‘Blabbermouth’ to the strong back catalogue. The latter features on this weeks show but both sides of this plate are heavy. Dark and moody D&B just how we like it with both tracks standing tall as a sidestep from the usual stuff being churned out. This gets a release on 7th May with both tracks there to preview. Get involved.

Big fans of Utopia Music at Robot Bodypop with plenty of releases featured in the last few months and Utopia Music 008, due out on the 7th May, sees Mikal return with ‘The Chant’ b2b with ‘Headbanger’. The A side featured this week shows why Mikals moves have caught the attention from fellow musicians Goldie and Break amongst others. Jungle vibes on both sides with a focus on slick drum patterns. A serious plate with no fillers . Going places this lad. No lie.
