DRS & Marcus Intalex

In anticipation of the forthcoming ‘I Don’t Usually Like MC’s But…’ long player from DRS, Soul:R label boss Marcus Intalex teams up with the mic-man himself with a stunning mix featuring cuts from the album. An exclusive to the DataTransmission collective, its a showcase of talents from both DRS and the producers. The LP is set to drop at the album launch party at the ‘Bunch Of Cuts’ night on the 25th August where DRS will feature alongside Marcus Intalex, Dub Phizix, Calibre, dBridge and S.P.Y amongst others. A truly mouth watering line up which serves this release justice. Tune into the mix to see what all the hype is about.

Fields – Utopia Music 009

Utopia Music are set to drop their latest single on Monday 23rd July and the new release sees Fields on production. With releases on Mars, Symmetry and Ingredients already under his belt, Fields breathes life into D&B with this double A side.

‘Elemntal’ is a progressive roller with harmonic stabs that set the pace for a smooth vibe with atmospheric pads taking you up. The track builds beautifully and carries you right through. A head nodder and a dancefloor track.

‘BTC’ on the AA side is a dark and techy number that eases you in before attacking with sonic hits and twisted bass.

Label boss MAKO certainly knows what direction he wants Utopia Music to go in and its refreshing to know people still want to step outside the norm and formulaic to make drum and bass that sounds this good.

Bag it.

Robot Bodypop 07.07.12

artwork by Mike Best

YES! Robot Bodypop comes once again with a selection so heavy its best mate is a Higgs Boson. Another 2 hours of incredible bass music all sublimely layered between 4 selectors this week. Killian comes in for the first hour followed by a 20 minute digital injection from 1nejack who’s busy circling the Earth. Selections there include smooth vibes from Bulgarian badman Mloski and Brightons Guy Andrews as well as bass heavy riddims from Spinline & Submerse as well as some other tracks taking the vibe in all manner of directions.

Don’t forget were carrying on with the Survivor track, this being the strongest track from the previous sessions selections. Keep your ears pinned back for that beauty.

Rounding everything off is, of course, the Transmit session this week provided by selectors Peaman & Hicha from Bristol. A glance at the tracklist shows they are proud of their roots and they took some time to chat breeze with the Robot Bodypop.

Stream it, download it and share with your mates. Its a sweet 2 hours of beats. Check out the ‘Free Beats’ post this week for info on where to bag more than a handful of these tracks from the producers kind enough to give them away.

Amoss – State Of Suspension E.P

Set for a release on July 9th, Dispatch Recordings brings Hereford duo Amoss to the forefront with this 4 track E.P. Featuring collabos from Fokuss and Dabs and an extra exclusive on the digital copy. ‘Rollpipe’ made it onto the Robot Bodypop playlist this week as it got us dancing hardest in the studio. The beats are clean and deep and the vocal stabs and build works perfectly alongside the neurofunk bass. ‘New Jack Swing’ picks up where 90’s D&B rollers left off and updates it with tight drum work and a liquid vocal. ‘Shapeshifter’ and ‘Latch’ round this release off with 4 tracks that yet again revive life into D&B.

Stray ft. Halogenix – Warm 022

Warm Communications have featured heavily on the Robot Bodypop, not least because of the diversity on the label. Their latest release with Stray ft. Halogenix on the new double A-side has been making waves within the D&B scene. No surprise because this release is indicative of producers wanting to try new things. ‘The Pursuit’ is a blend of ridiculously tight percussion & groove bass interspersed with sweet amens and smooth atmospherics. Made me feel like a getaway driver.
On the flip is the track that made it onto the Robot Bodypop show this week. Stray teaming up with Halogenix goes by the name ‘Poison’. Builds up with smooth pads before literally attacking your beat judgement with some work I’ve never heard anywhere else. I’m still trying to get my head round it so I’m gonna stop trying to describe how much I love the vocal cut over the skippy riddim and leave you to listen yourself.

Not been this excited about a single in a while purely for what it might do for other producers. Bag this on the 16th July and beyond.

Until Silence – That Shine b/w Hands Tied | RED010

Not ones for sticking to a particular genre or vibe, here at the Robot Bodypop we are feeling this cut from Until Silence which is on a deep house tip. His second offering on the mighty Pushing Red label and one of the strongest releases yet. ‘That Shine’ kicks off with pulsating kicks and a strong vocal commands your attention. ‘Hands Tied’ is straight up feel good house. A solid 4/4 keeps the momentum strong with soulful male vocals thrown on top. Smooth chords bounce with the deep bassline. Love this. Pushing Red is certainly doing all it can to stay a commendable label amassing a serious back catalogue.

Out now and available at any online music retailer worth its salt.
