Tuned In Two

Total Science
presents the follow up the now classic seminal compilation album that encapsulated their vision of d&b way back in 2001. ‘Tuned In’ included the cream of the crop & the bright new stars of that era & now after over 10 years they’ve decided the time is right to do it again, piecing together a selection of their favourite artists including some newcomers. These tracks define the CIA sound, label and their definition of d&b as they feel it now & for years to come.

“Trends and fashions come and go within all the dance music genres but even after all this time there is still an underlying straight up timeless Drum & Bass sound & quality we feel & can’t be ignored which needs to be pushed forward and presented as a collection”

‘Tuned In’
featured the best of old skool new skool & unheard artists & thats the theory behind this album too, Calibre & Spirit even appeared on the first incarnation. ‘Tuned In 2’ features once again the cream of the crop & bright new stars of the future , Are you Tuned In ?

The Compilation 2012 | MindStep Music

MindStep have been a formidable force in deep dubstep for some time. Consistent with their drops and keeping to a dub-heavy blueprint they have established themselves as one of the key labels in the scene.

The Compilation 2012 marches their heavyweight roster out in force. Overseas names like the mighty Tallan stack up alongside homegrown talents such as fellow Mancunian Djinn & Londoner Karma. Deep rumbling subs, tribal percussion, spacial atmospheres and distorted dub sounds keep the vibe keen and meditative.

For newcomers to MindStep this is a great introduction to a fantastic and highly relevant imprint. Fans will also enjoy the summing up of the best releases from the past year. All contemplative bass heads, cast your pounds and pennies in this direction.

Ghostek – Navigate | Square Harmony

Subject of a far-reaching and well received remix contest on Soundcloud, this track from deep future garage producer Ghostek has so many different levels to it we fully expected to meet a big boss at the end.

The single itself comes in two parts, slyly different imaginings of the same theme. Part 1 builds the pace steadily with plenty of interest as the kick thumps along under the myriad textures and atmospheres. Part 2 becomes more crisp and more weird, with the introduction of a crunching snare plus some freaky distorted speech. Sangam drops in with an ambient remix followed by increasingly percussive variations by Myztical, SMAUG and Kalli. Check the Stranger cut below, also featured on the release

Breakage – The Promise EP | FREE DOWNLOAD

Much like his productions, Breakage‘s output is sparse, yet to the point. Available for free by signing up to his mailing list, we are treated to three tracks in total.

‘Express’ starts in a deep and minimal house mode, progressively building to an innovative syncopated drum and bass flavoured crescendo. ‘Ass Up’ brings the deep tech house sound back into play before we are treated to the EP’s showpiece – a club house banger with all the right ingredients. A fitting climax in which ‘The Promise’ is truly delivered.

Look out for the highly anticipated third album from the digital soundboy which is scheduled to drop in 2013.
