Stray ft. Halogenix – Warm 022

Warm Communications have featured heavily on the Robot Bodypop, not least because of the diversity on the label. Their latest release with Stray ft. Halogenix on the new double A-side has been making waves within the D&B scene. No surprise because this release is indicative of producers wanting to try new things. ‘The Pursuit’ is a blend of ridiculously tight percussion & groove bass interspersed with sweet amens and smooth atmospherics. Made me feel like a getaway driver.
On the flip is the track that made it onto the Robot Bodypop show this week. Stray teaming up with Halogenix goes by the name ‘Poison’. Builds up with smooth pads before literally attacking your beat judgement with some work I’ve never heard anywhere else. I’m still trying to get my head round it so I’m gonna stop trying to describe how much I love the vocal cut over the skippy riddim and leave you to listen yourself.

Not been this excited about a single in a while purely for what it might do for other producers. Bag this on the 16th July and beyond.

Mungos Hi-Fi – Forward Ever

Glaswegian soundboys, Mungos Hi-Fi, return with a more digital outing than previous excursions and with this their third album, its upfront reggae alongside some of the finest vocal talent around. Positive vibes with each track and it sounds more like a party than an LP. A seriously diverse sounding record moving from ska to dubstep whilst maintaining classing backings and a nod to days gone by. Essential listening.
