Catnapp – Make Your Speakers Boom

Buenos Airies born Catnapp is the first ‘one-girl’ band that I’ve ever encountered. Holding down production and mic duties herself and using only a DJ in a live environment to spin her beats while she goes in on the mic. Originally setting out to make drum&bass and breakbeat in 2009, her mission has taken her through many electronic sounds bringing us into 2012 with the release of the ‘Make Your Speakers Boom’ remix EP. It features the original track as well as remixes from underground producers from London, New York, Buenos Aires, Berlin, Barcelona as well as Paraguay, taking in Electro, Bass, UK Funky, Techno and several other musical styles. Oozing with pure attitude this is a strong release and with another 5 already under her belt, this girl is going to continue to mould and morph all the while refusing to be boxed in by musical boundaries.

The remix EP is available on Berlin based label IF THE KIDS

Check out Catnapps other releases here on her Bandcamp page and keep your eyes on Robot Bodypop for a full interview with the woman herself in the coming weeks.

Moth Equals

Searching through unsigned artists often throws up surprising results and one welcome surprise was that of young UK based producer, Moth Equals. With 10 years+ production under his belt he’s beginning to carve a sound for himself, evident on not one but two long players he’s made available for music fans. With a variety of stlyes on offer throughout these two albums, Moth Equals and his ‘ghost’ have taken influence from DJ Krush, Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation amongst others and used them to fuel the trip-hop melodies that carry you from start to finish on each LP. A very exciting producer and we’re eager to see him link up with a turntablist he keenly searches for future collaborations. Take in both ‘Dreamcoat’ and ‘The Fall And Rise’, they are a fantastic reflection of one mans creative output.

Both albums available on a name your price basis but do the right thing and bung this guy some ca$h 🙂

Bunzer0 – Wet Wool | Forthcoming L2S Recordings

Belgian residents Bunzer0 and long time Robot Bodypop favourite Janner collaborate on this new 3 track EP on Whistla‘s future garage label L2S due for release later this week.

The vibe is deep, heavy and steppy. Pitch bent basslines and funky 2step breaks feature throughout. Whilst highly suited to the dancefloor, there is still more than enough subtlety and precise soundscaping to satisfy the contemplative heads who like to stand back taking it all in. A worthy addition to the formidable L2S roster. Preview the full release here and grab it when it drops from any of the following outlets:

Boomkat

Digital Tunes

Plastician – Start Select Reset | Forthcoming Trouble & Bass

Anybody who follows bass music knows – Plastician is a badman. This new EP harks  back to the original rave era as well as the early grime days which made his name.

‘Bad Like Us’ and ‘Retro’ bang hard with an anthemic old skool vibe, the former featuring Doctor with a heavy up front vocal assuring any would be contenders to the throne that ‘them nah bad like us’. Next we have two grimey bangers, the menacing ‘Senate’ and beatific ragga vibes of ‘Elixir’. Doctor once again features on ‘Rebel Music’, a forceful dubstep smasher. Rounded off by the aforementioned track’s instrumental this release is as mighty and unrestrained as ever – If you are familiar with Plastician‘s sound then you already know what to expect. Out 18th September, you can pre-order from Juno.

Clueless – On The Street EP | Forthcoming on B-Dem

Transmit Sessions contributor Clueless is one of Norway’s finest future garage exports – After a brief hiatus he dropped the excellent Griswald House EP bringing fresh energy and a warm summer club vibe. This, his newest release, will be his debut for Brighton imprint B-Dem Records who also recently dropped newcomer Mr. Beeb‘s first release; the ‘Ambivalence EP’, reviewed here.

The Triplet style that has become Clueless‘ signature is well represented in the funky opener ‘On The Street’, bringing mellow chords that are nicely offset by a punchy bass line and a street soul hook. ‘Give U The World’ ups the pace with speedy claps and splashes of vocal underpinned by its subtle drifting pads. ‘Sync Situation’ is arguably the EP’s showpiece with some amazing drum work, it’s emotive strings perfectly combined with the dazzling vocal and popping garage synths. If you like progressive 2step, we strongly recommend that you check out this EP when it drops on the 21st of September.

North Base x Virus Syndicate – Home

Brand new collabo from infectious mic men Virus Syndicate and deep beat maestros North Base with this wicked new trick entitled ‘Home’. Pretty much everything you can expect from one of the scenes hottest grime crews and this years emerging and exciting dancefloor act. Its all about the amens for me. Bringing back that old flavour but still managing to sound as fresh as ever the producers here fully compliment the vocalists. Awesome and original work from both parties.

Available now alongside a tearout remix and acapella from Beatport, iTunes and Juno as well as all good online retailers
