Karel Průcha aka Chik is a young dubstep producer hailing from the Czech Republic. Producing since 2007, last year saw his debut album ‘Different Sounds‘ released the on Bullet Time label and some of his tracks were on heavy rotation on Rinse.FM. Now with several releases under his belt on Czech labels Elemental, Owntempo and io.lab he is embedding himself in the darker and more sinister dubstep vibe. A selection of free cuts as well as the mighty ‘Vulcanic‘ from Darktide Recordings should be enough to pique every dubstep fans interest. Moody soundscapes coupled with high production values make these a must-have.
Made available last year as a free download taken from the Wikkid Times E.P, Appleblim and Komonazmuk‘s remix is a huge slice of future bass. A smooth melody laced with deep volcals backed with some fantastic drums carry you through the duration of this 8 minute wonder. Still floating around on several links this needs to be picked up before they all disappear.
Perhaps the most significant release to date from Sheffield label Off Me Nut Records, this vomitesque release carries an undead theme. Starting with 4 heavily decomposed cuts from Submerse and complimented by remixes from Prague’s Z-Kat and Sheffield’s own Phatworld, this cut brings floor shaking 4×4 beats, sinister doom laden samples and polyunsaturated basslines that hook the ear with all the subtlety of a crowbar smashed through the cranium. All you need to prepare yourself for the coming zombie apocalypse. Here’s a little taster;
Also, check out the other releases featured on possibly the most garish and diseased-looking record label web site on the interwebs: www.offmenutrecords.com – Great work from all involved!
One half of the bay area future hip hop team Lazer Sword, Lando Kal’s solo work is an altogether different kettle of bass.
Dense instrumentation, analog synth and drum machine work, complex melodies, and creeping basslines are pooled from his musical obsessions with 90’s RnB, classic house, freestyle, garage, Detroit Techno, early synthesizer music, Timbaland, and… to be honest, everything in between.
Check out this innovative release on Rush Hour Records. Vinyl well worth a space in your collection!
Also peep this – a sick collaboration with london MC’s the Foreign Beggars. It’s tracks like these that put Lando Kal amongst the most innovative of his generation.
