IMLTD 1208 – ‘Purple Sky’ EP

French imprint IM:Ltd showcases some of their talent with the new Purple Rain EP reflecting on sounds from a wide open spectrum of deep and forward thinking drum and bass.
Berlin best kept secret Es.Tereo opens up with the soulful ‘Purple Sky’, a textured blend of synths and crisp drums. Gunston’s ‘Transition’ follows with a dark vibe coupled with creeping vocals. Ukrainian lone wolf Hibea steps it up with the menacingly minimal ‘Ellipse’ before its all wrapped up by Nuage taking the vibe up and away soaring through sonic space with ‘Above Time’. Incredible work from this label and theres a couple of bonus tracks in there too. ‘Lonely’ from hot prospect Gerwin and ‘In This Life’ from Belgian producer Atmospherix. Easily in my top 5 EPs for the year so far.

Moth Equals

Searching through unsigned artists often throws up surprising results and one welcome surprise was that of young UK based producer, Moth Equals. With 10 years+ production under his belt he’s beginning to carve a sound for himself, evident on not one but two long players he’s made available for music fans. With a variety of stlyes on offer throughout these two albums, Moth Equals and his ‘ghost’ have taken influence from DJ Krush, Massive Attack and Thievery Corporation amongst others and used them to fuel the trip-hop melodies that carry you from start to finish on each LP. A very exciting producer and we’re eager to see him link up with a turntablist he keenly searches for future collaborations. Take in both ‘Dreamcoat’ and ‘The Fall And Rise’, they are a fantastic reflection of one mans creative output.

Both albums available on a name your price basis but do the right thing and bung this guy some ca$h 🙂

Utopia Music are set to drop their latest single on Monday 23rd July and the new release sees Fields on production. With releases on Mars, Symmetry and Ingredients already under his belt, Fields breathes life into D&B with this double A side.

‘Elemntal’ is a progressive roller with harmonic stabs that set the pace for a smooth vibe with atmospheric pads taking you up. The track builds beautifully and carries you right through. A head nodder and a dancefloor track.

‘BTC’ on the AA side is a dark and techy number that eases you in before attacking with sonic hits and twisted bass.

Label boss MAKO certainly knows what direction he wants Utopia Music to go in and its refreshing to know people still want to step outside the norm and formulaic to make drum and bass that sounds this good.

Bag it.

Made available through his Soundcloud & Bandcamp pages, Ghostek offers up this free 3 track EP. Haunting and dark beats a plenty with some great synths and trademark crackles. Absolutely loving this style of 2-step. Not to be missed.

Qualmsound – Genesis EP

Manchester based producer Qualmsound is devleloping a deep and atmospheric signature sound evident on his new release entitled ‘Genesis EP’ out on Soulstep Records. Uplifiting soundscapes with a dolly mixture of synths and heavy subs make this a release not to be slept on. ‘Breath’ harks back to early dubstep vibes while ‘Etheral’ has positive and bright vibes to carry you through. Breath then gets the remix treatment by Blynk. Hearing is believing. Bag it now from Juno Records.
